Capps Campaign Strikes Back Against False Ad
Asks where are candidates on Ryan plan?
SANTA BARBARA – Today the campaign of Congresswoman Lois Capps released a web ad denouncing false attacks on her from the National Republican Campaign Committee. The ad points out that the real threat to Medicare comes from the so-called Ryan plan, adopted by the House in a partisan vote, which would privatize Medicare by turning it into a voucher plan. Capps has been on record in opposition to the Ryan plan but some of the politicians supported by the group that is running the ad have yet to take a position on it. The ad can be viewed here: http://www.cappsforcongress.com/.
A statement from Bill Carrick, campaign consultant for the Capps campaign, follows:
“The real question before Central Coast residents regarding Medicare is where does someone who wants to be in Congress stand on the Ryan plan? Congresswoman Capps has been very clear in her opposition to this plan but we haven’t heard a lot from some of the local folks supported by this Washington group attacking her. If you are serious about wanting to be a U.S. Representative from the Central Coast, which has almost 100,000 people in the Medicare program today, you owe it to those folks and their families to say whether you are in favor of this plan or not.
“Congresswoman Capps knows that the Ryan plan would end Medicare as we know it. It takes away the guarantee to health care that seniors rely on today by privatizing Medicare and replacing it with a voucher program that the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office says will increase costs for seniors by something like $6000 a year. The Ryan plan doesn’t save Medicare, as its proponents argue, it ends it."
